Motherwell, Eastern Cape -
Ten men appeared in the Motherwell Magistrate's Court in Port Elizabeth on charges of arson, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.
Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu said the case was postponed for further investigations.
They were released on R500 bail each.
The men were accused of burning down two shacks in Mpangele Street in Motherwell on Monday.
“There was a rumour that the group were upset over an issue of housing, but it was not confirmed,” Gwavu said.
The group also burnt a woman's furniture and some of her clothing.
Gwavu said the men faced charges of assault with aggravating circumstances and malicious damage to property.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Tsepo Ndwalaza said the men were expected back in court on September 20. - Sapa
