Rustenburg – Several shops were looted and ten people arrested for public violence during a community protest in Wolmaransstad, North West police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said residents barricaded the N12 freeway with objects on Tuesday night.

“The N12 is opened for traffic now, the situation is calm. The Public Oder Police (POP) brought the situation under control in the early hours of this morning [Wednesday].”

He said a woman and nine men, ranging in age from 18 to 32, were arrested.

Residents took to the streets on Tuesday night, barricading the N12 with objects. An unconfirmed number of vehicles were pelted with stones.
