Durban - Five women from Thailand were arrested on Wednesday at a lodge that was allegedly operating as a brothel in Morningside, Durban.

They were arrested by metro police for allegedly having expired visas, false documentation and being in possession of drugs.

Police also charged the owner of the lodge after receiving a tip-off that he was allegedly running a brothel.

The women were taken to a Department of Home Affairs office to verify their identities.

They were due to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

The African Rendezvous Lodge in Hampden Road where they were arrested is advertised on the internet as an upmarket lodge.

SAPS spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane, said charges of fraud and possession of drugs had been opened.
