Johannesburg - The police are one step closer to cracking Lawrence Moepi’s murder.

They have released a picture of a man who they say might assist with their investigation.

Moepi was killed in October last year in the parking lot of the premises of SizweNtsalubaGobodo, an auditing firm, at which he worked as director of forensic services.

He was followed to the Houghton office by gunmen travelling in a VW Golf.

The criminals shot him as he was getting out of his vehicle.

Moepi had worked closely with the Scorpions and Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.

He was also an integral part of a team investigating the controversial sale of Cosatu’s headquarters in Braamfontein.

The police strongly believe the pictured man’s co-operation could help them crack the case.

The picture is of a man in his forties who has usually been seen in Alexandra or Soweto.

Another suspect, Remember Siporo, has been arrested and charged with murder. He was denied bail during his last appearance and will be appearing in court on April 4.

The case might be moved to the Johannesburg High Court as it is a case involving murder.

The 40-year-old was arrested in Mofolo, Soweto, and the search is still on for a second suspect.

“If we can locate the man in the picture, he can assist us in identifying the second suspect,” said SAPS Gauteng provincial spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

“Police are appealing to anyone who may have information or who knows his whereabouts to come forward,” he said.

“They may contact Crime Stop at 086 001 0111.

“Information may also be forwarded by an SMS to the Primedia Crime Line number, 32211, at all hours.”

There is a reward for information.
