Cape Town - Three people have been arrested in connection with an attack on a couple who are in critical condition after they were stabbed multiple times by burglars in a house in Bishopscourt.

Their stolen White Ford Bantam bakkie has also been recovered by police.

Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said on Thursday that police spotted the bakkie with three occupants near Muizenberg on Wednesday.

This led to a chase resulting in the arrest of the suspects in Mitchells Plain.

Rwexana said the three suspects aged 13, 20 and 40 will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to house robbery and attempted murder.

The attack took place on Tuesday at about 12:30pm in Briar Road.

Derek McMahon, of the Bishopscourt Village Residents Association, confirmed the attack.

The Newlands Community Forum (NCF) said three men forced their way on to the property with a chisel-type instrument.

Meanwhile, in Southfield, a 68-year-old man was stabbed at his home on Wednesday morning.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said he had two minor stab wounds.
