Three arrested for speeding

Three people have been arrested for driving over 173km an hour in the Elsburg area, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Sunday.

Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng said the three were arrested on the N17 freeway running in both directions.

“A 40-year old female driving a white BMW sedan was stopped for doing 173 km/h. A 35-year old male in a maroon BMW sedan was caught doing 179 km/h. A 29-year old male driving a white BMW sedan was cornered for clocking 182 km/h,” he said.

The three claimed they were running late for “attending problems at home, late for a flight, and late for church”.

They were arrested and charged with reckless and negligent driving and would appear in the Germiston magistrate court soon, Mokheseng said. - Sapa
