Durban - Three of the 19 people arrested in connection with a drug laboratory in an upper-class Durban suburb will seek bail, the Pinetown Magistrate's Court heard on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Kumbu Shazi told magistrate Nkosiyazi Ngcobo there would be bail applications from three of the accused. Ncobo ordered that they make their formal bail applications on December 23.

The remaining 16 would stay in custody until February 27.

At the men's previous appearance the matter was heard in camera, as there were doubts about the ages of two of them.

However, on Tuesday no one was ordered to leave the courtroom and the media were briefly allowed to take pictures of the men.

At the time of their arrest at the end of November, Lt-Gen Solomon Makgale said heroin straws, Mandrax tablets, heroin powder, and drug-making equipment were found at a house in Gillits, Durban.

All 19 were foreign nationals. The drugs seized had an estimated street value of R41 million.
