Lenasia - Three men were arrested on Thursday afternoon in connection with murder and arson in Lenasia South, Gauteng police said.

Police, acting on a tip-off, found them in the Vlakfontein area, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said.

The men, aged between 19 and 34, allegedly threw a petrol bomb into a house in the area on Sunday, setting it on fire.

Neighbours came to the rescue of the occupants, but a 28-year-old man died on the scene from smoke inhalation. The other four people were unharmed.

Makhubele said the 23-year-old man, one of those arrested, was also linked to two rape cases. The crimes were committed on Saturday and on January 14.

He would appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Friday facing two rape charges.

Makhubele said he would also appear on Monday along with the other two on murder and arson charges in the same court. - Sapa
