Three people were killed on Friday morning during a robbery in Ntabankulu, near Queenstown in the Eastern Cape, police said.

Captain Mlungisi Matidane said a Pakistani merchant and his watchman were shot dead in Bhonxa location.

The merchant and his South African girlfriend heard their watchman scream just after midnight.

Four men appeared at the back door of the shop, demanding money.

“They continued to ask for money, and when the Pakistani national said he had no more money, they shot and killed him,” said Matidane.

The watchman was also killed by the gang, he said.

The woman started screaming, alerting neighbours.

The men ran away, and a gunshot was heard.

“One of the suspects was killed by the other suspects,” he said.

“We are still making a call to the surrounding community. They must come and identify the men.”

An undisclosed amount of money was taken. – Sapa
