Johannesburg - Three more suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Democratic Alliance councillor and a business associate in the Northern Cape last month.

In a statement, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said Charles Thompson Mpondomisa, 39, Matthews Legodu, 49, and Richard Hasana, 33, were arrested on Tuesday.

The three, as well as Zonisele Magawu, 29, were charged with the murder of DA councillor, Johannes Baatjies, and his business associate, Shupping Nose, on August 18.

The three suspects appeared in the Postmasburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday when the case was postponed to September 22 and referred to the Danielskuil Magistrate’s Court.

Spokesperson Captain Philani Nkwalase said that Magawu, who was arrested soon after the murder, is also expected to appear on September 22 for a bail application in the same court.
