Johannesburg - Three men have been arrested in connection with murder and house robbery in Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

The men were allegedly caught red-handed on Tuesday at the house of a man they had killed, said Captain Thulani Zwane.

Three men allegedly attacked a 70-year-old man at his house while one of their accomplices kept watch outside the house.

They tied him up, demanded safe keys, and he was stabbed several times.

Community members in the area alerted police when they suspected something was amiss in the house.

“Police immediately responded to the complaint and caught three suspects in the house,” said Zwane.

The man who was outside the house managed to get away and police were searching for him.

The arrested men, aged between 19 and 20, were expected to appear in the Greytown Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, said Zwane.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt-Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the community for informing the police.

“Police will work around the clock to try and link the men to other house robbery cases that were reported in the Greytown and the surrounding areas.” - Sapa
