Cape Town - Three Spur staffers were stabbed during an early-morning robbery at the restaurant in the West Coast Village Centre in Sunningdale, Table View.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Andrè Traut said the incident occurred about 7.30am on Sunday.

“This office can confirm the circumstances surrounding the robbery at a restaurant in Table View. Three victims were stabbed during the incident. The suspects fled with cellphones and have yet to be arrested.”

A staffer said there were about 19 staff members including three managers inside the restaurant in Sandown Road at the time.

“Doors open at 8am and we are normally at the store early.

“Three staff members were stabbed. Two were transported to Blaauwberg Hospital to have X-rays done on their chests, and a third was taken to Mediclinic trauma unit.”

He added that staff would be sent for trauma counselling this week.

“The most important thing is the well-being of staff. While we closed the doors during operating hours today, (Sunday) we will reopen tomorrow (Monday),” he said.

The robbers initially demanded keys to the safe, which is kept off the premises.

When they were told this, they turned their attention to staff and stole their personal belongings.

“We have CCTV cameras inside the store and it clearly shows their faces,” said one witness.

Francois Sieomana, a car guard, said that he arrived at the scene after the incident.

When I arrived police were at the scene and cordoned off the area.

“We heard that a woman was one of those stabbed and that their cellphones were taken.”

In the late afternoon, several patrons were turned away at the door. They were shocked that it had been robbed.
