Johannesburg - Police were searching for three men who allegedly killed a man and hijacked his car in Zola, Soweto, on Tuesday, Gauteng police said.

The men allegedly convinced the 71-year-old man, believed to be a taxi owner, to accompany them in his car as they were going to sell him something, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

“While they were driving they shot him, threw him onto the road and drove away,” said Makhubela.

The man was picked up by the occupants of a passing taxi and taken to the local fire station.

“He was confirmed dead at the fire station,” said Makhubela.

The men allegedly hit and injured two other people while driving.

“They then dumped the car in Moletsane and ran away,” said Makhubela.

It was unknown if anything was stolen from the man. A case of murder, hijacking, and reckless driving was opened.
