Johannesburg - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela and President Jacob Zuma stole the media spotlight in the absence of the Oscar Pistorius trial, media monitoring group DDI said on Thursday.
“The publicity surrounding Thuli Mandonsela and (President) Jacob Zuma increased dramatically in the past 24 hours, largely due to the Nkandla issue,” Data Driven Insight (DDI) said in a statement.
The data was collected between 4pm on Wednesday and 4pm on Thursday.
Zuma received 60.55 percent coverage, while Madonsela came in at 39.45 percent when the two were measured against each other in the South African news space.
Last week, Madonsela released the report on the upgrades at Zuma's homestead in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal.
The report, titled “Secure in Comfort”, held that Zuma should pay back some of the R246 million spent on refurbishments.
Even without any activity in court, Pistorius accounted for 16 percent of press coverage, the survey indicated.
Pistorius' trial adjourned on Tuesday and would be back in the High Court in Pretoria on Friday.
The star athlete has been charged with the premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and contravening the Firearms Control Act.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
