Cape Town - A 33-year-old woman and her boyfriend appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after police allowed her to collect a parcel containing sandals in which 600g of tik was hidden.

The tik, worth R180 000, was concealed in the heels of the two wedge sandals - one white and one beige - in two plastic bags, police spokesman FC Van Wyk said.

The woman collected the parcel at the Cape Town Central Post Office in Darling Street after members of the police’s Border Control and their colleagues in Crime Intelligence decided to do a “controlled delivery of the parcel”.

“The woman got an unwelcome surprise when she collected her parcel and police was there to arrest her,” he said.

During the delivery the 34-year-old woman’s boyfriend was arrested on the Grand Parade, said Van Wyk.

The couple appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court and were charged with drug trafficking.

Van Wyk refused to divulge how the police knew about the drugs inside the sandals.

Van Wyk could not give the names of the two suspects while National Prosecuting Authority provincial spokesman Eric Ntabazalila could not give more information about what happened in court.
