Groblersdal – Police in Nebo near Groblersdal have launched a manhunt for a traditional healer suspected of rape following an incident at Ga-Marishane village, Limpopo police said on Saturday.

It was alleged that a 16-year-old girl went to the traditional healer's home for a traditional medical consultation on Friday afternoon, Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

"As part of the consultation, she was given traditional medications by this healer to drink and subsequently she felt dizzy and the suspect took her to a room where he [allegedly] raped her."

The traditional healer, about 50 years old, was well-known in the village and disappeared immediately after the incident.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspect should contact Detective Warrant Officer Kgerudi Moela of the Groblersdal family violence, child protection, and sexual offences (FCS) unit on 071-355-0577 or the nearest police station or crime stop on 08600 10111.

"Members of the community, especially mothers, are advised to stop allowing children to consult this type of sessions alone to prevent and avoid similar incidents to happen. Take note; child safety comes first," Ngoepe said.
