Upington - Two traffic officers have been arrested for alleged corruption in Upington, Northern Cape, the Hawks said on Saturday.

The Anti Corruption investigation unit of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation arrested the officers on Friday, Captain Paul Ramaloko said. “The two traffic officials pulled off a man who was speeding and instructed him to pay R1 000 bribe.

“The man apparently explained to the officers that he was rushing his wife who was in labour to Upington hospital,” Ramaloko said.

The officers released the man on condition that he would pay them R1 000 when he returns home.

The man reported the matter to the Hawks.

Police arrested the officers after they pocketed the R1 000. Ramaloko said the bribe money was recovered, and the officers would appear in the Upington Magistrate's court on Monday.
