A woman train driver was murdered at the Makhado railway station in Limpopo in the early hours of Monday, police said.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the 47-year-old woman was attacked while she and her assistant were walking home after completing their shift.

Her assistant managed to flee unharmed. When police arrived, the driver's body was discovered next to a stationary train.
