Brits – The three men accused of the murder of a North West policeman in November last year will stand trial in August, it emerged in the Brits Regional Court on Wednesday.
Samuel Marothodi Maphanga, Ndoda Mathibefazi and Jonathan Seloane appeared briefly in court where they were informed that their trial would start on August 22.
The State alleges the three men shot and wounded Warrant Officer Sipho Sithole, 48, in Letlhabile near Brits in a hijacking in November last year.
Sithole was in his car when he was approached by three men. They allegedly shot him in the chest and fled with his car. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.
His car was found in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria.
Warrant Officer Victor Ramorwesi arrested Maphanga on November 25 after the members of the police’s specialised crime-fighting unit, the Hawks, went to his parents’ home in Soshanguve. While Maphanga was at work, his father, Steve Maphanga, made an arrangement with the police that he would inform them when his son returned home.
Ramorwesi arrested Mathibefazi on January 31 in Soshanguve and Seloane was arrested on February 4 in Makapanstad.
