Polokwane - The Naphumo Regional Court on Friday sentenced three rapists each to 25 years behind bars for kidnapping and gang-raping a teenage girl, Limpopo police said.

David Sekgobela, 26, Samuel Maponya, 24, and Masedi Isaac Makomela, 25, lived in Lephepane, near Tzaneen, the same village as their victim, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

They raped her in April 2012, when she was 12. They came across her one evening and blocked her way.

“She tried to run away but they overpowered her, kidnapped her to a certain house and raped her the whole night until she was released in the early hours of the following day around 3am,” Ngoepe said.

The girl was repeatedly assaulted with a broom stick. Her attackers put a towel in her mouth to prevent her from screaming.
