Pretoria - A Tshwane municipal building inspector was arrested on Friday for allegedly soliciting a bribe, the Hawks said.

“He demanded R5 000 to authorise occupation of houses in Mamelodi East,” Captain Paul Ramaloko said.

The Hawks worked with the Tshwane metro municipality to secure the arrest, which was made just after 3pm.

The inspector allegedly delayed authorising a certificate which a contractor, who was building subsidised housing, needed to be paid for the job, for a month.

He allegedly demanded the R5000 in exchange for issuing this authorisation.

The man would appear in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Monday to face a charge of corruption.
