The level of unrest and violence in Tshwane was not anticipated according to the Minister of State Security, David Mahlobo, but he acknowledged that protests were sparked by ANC members “who were not satisfied with the processes” of selecting the Tshwane mayoral candidate.
While Mahlobo believes that ANC leaders in the area started the unrest, the party members have denied any involvement in the violence‚ which has left at least one person dead‚ buses torched and shops looted.
