Vereeniging - The bodies of two men were found lying in the bushes next to the R59 bridge along the Vaal River on Friday, Vereeniging police said.
Spokesman sergeant Xolile Majola said a fisherman found the bodies of two African men believed to be in their 20s.
“(The) bodies were badly assaulted and had head wounds that seem to be caused by firearms...” he said in a statement.
“Preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased might have been with girls who might have been victims of rape... The police are urging (people) who might have knowledge about the cruel criminal act to contact (us).”
Majola said no arrests have been made and investigations continue.
