Two policemen are due to appear in court soon, after they allegedly shot and wounded their wives, Limpopo police said on Saturday.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said that the two warrant officers, aged 50 and 46, would appear in the Seshego Magistrate's court on Monday on charges of attempted murder.

In the first incident, the warrant officer, 50, shot his wife in the face with his service pistol at their Mmotong home on Christmas day.

“The woman survived and is currently being treated in hospital.”

In the second incident, the officer shot his wife in the stomach and upper body at their home on the Day of Goodwill. She was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Mulaudzi said the exact motives for the shootings were unclear, but “domestic disputes” appeared to have played some role.

Provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Simon Mpembe expressed shock and dismay at the crimes.

“These suspects are arrested and will receive the same harsh treatment that any common criminal deserve after such deplorable acts,” he said. -Sapa
