Johannesburg -
Two men were arrested for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle near Tembisa after a car chase on Tuesday, Gauteng police said.
A police reservist, who was on his way home, noticed a car travelling at high speed and followed it, said Lt-Col Katlego Mogale.
He called for back up from the flying squad.
“The suspects noticed police on the Tembisa/Kempton Park ramp. The suspects jumped out of their vehicle and fled into the nearby cornfields,” she said.
The two men were arrested, and a firearm was found in their possession.
Police later established that the Audi they were travelling in was reported as used in a hijacking in Doornkloof.
The pair are due to appear in court soon facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. - Sapa
