Rustenburg - Two men have been arrested for allegedly trying to rob a farm near Amalia, North West, on Wednesday, police said.

The two, aged 38 and 34, were arrested near Schweizer-Reneke around 7am, Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.

Four men arrived at the farm early in the morning, found an elderly woman outside, and said they wanted to buy sheep. Three of them entered the farm house, while the fourth man remained outside with the woman. He allegedly produced a firearm and forced her into the house.

“They were inside the house when the woman's son-in-law emerged and realised what was happening.”

He fired two shots, hitting two of the gang in the upper body and face. The four escaped in a black Nissan Navara bakkie. Local residents gave chase and the men stopped their car near Schweizer-Reneke and fled on foot.

The injured men were caught and taken to hospital where they were under police guard. The other two were still at large, Ngubane said.

The men would appear in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrate's Court soon on attempted robbery charges.
