Two held for fraud

Comment on this story

Johannesburg - Two people were arrested while trying to defraud a cellular phone store at the Jabulani shopping complex in Soweto on Friday, police said.

They were arrested in a process of collecting the cellular phones they had applied for by using fake documents, said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele.

“They both went to the shop separately to apply for contracted Blackberry cellular phones on Wednesday,” he said.

A case of fraud was opened with the Jabulani police shortly after it was detected that the man and woman were using fake identity documents and payslips.

The store was requested to inform the man and a woman that their applications were successful.

“They arrived at the store as they were requested on Friday morning, where they were arrested,” said Makhubele.

The 26-year-old man and the woman, 20, were expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on charges of fraud on Monday. - Sapa
