Pietermaritzburg - Two murder suspects, both aged 21, were arrested for murder and robbery in Sweetwater, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the arrests were made on Monday at around 7pm.

“On Sunday 21 June 2015 at about 07:00 Sandile Cebekhulu (35) was approached by the suspects who fatally stabbed him with a knife after an argument.”

Zwane said Cebekhulu sustained multiple stab wounds to the body and died instantly.

“They robbed him of his cellphone and wallet and fled the scene on foot,” Zwane said.

Police were able to locate the whereabouts of the suspects, and they were found in possession of a knife that was suspected to have been used to commit the offence.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said: “Those who commit criminal offences will definitely not be left unpunished.”
