Rustenburg - Two men were arrested for possession of suspected stolen copper cables with an estimated valued of R500 000 in Morokweng, North West police said on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said the two were arrested on Wednesday after the police in Morokweng received information about a truck suspected to be transporting scrap metal.

“A follow-up was made and the truck was found just outside the village. It was during a search that the police found 18 bags of copper cables to the estimated value of R500 000 hidden underneath the scrap metals. Both the driver and his co-worker were arrested after failing to account for the cables,” he said.

The two, aged 39 and 45, would appear in the Ganyesa Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
