Kamesh, Eastern Cape - Two men have been arrested for robbing a business in Kamesh in the Eastern Cape, police said on Monday.

Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said five men, one with a firearm, robbed a shop in Chico Street, Tambovillage, in Kamesh around 7.30pm.

The five men entered the shop pretending to be customers before attacking the shopkeeper and a cashier.

They stole cellphones, airtime, cigarettes, and cash before fleeing.

“Community members noticed what was going on inside and managed to apprehend two of the suspects while they were trying to get out of the shop,” Swart said.

They notified local police and handed over the two suspects, aged 15 and 31.

“The other three men managed to run away with the firearm and the stolen goods,” Swart said.

The two men were expected to appear in Uitenhage Magistrate's court on Tuesday on a charge of armed robbery. - Sapa
