Johannesburg - Two men were arrested for attempted murder on Monday after allegedly shooting at two people in Meadowlands, Soweto police said.

One was arrested in Naledi around 7am and the second man handed himself over to the police around 1pm, Constable Sibusiso Chauke said.

The pair, aged 27 and 35, had been on the run since June 10 when they shot at a couple travelling in a kombi in Meadowlands Zone two. The couple was followed by the alleged shooters to Zone 11.

When the driver realised he was being followed he increased his speed and the two, driving a blue Corsa, began shooting at the kombi.

When the kombi came to a stop at a set of traffic lights, the men approached the kombi, told the driver they had mistaken his car for theirs, which had been stolen.

A case of attempted murder was opened at the Meadowlands police station, Chauke said.

The pair would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
