Two suspects have been arrested and 21 gold Krugerrand coins, stolen during a housebreaking at the Mount Edgecombe Golf Estate, have been recovered.

The arrest was made by Enforce private investigators and Warrant Officer Dinesh Rajkoomar and his team at the Phoenix police.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court this week on theft charges.

Nico Potgieter, head of investigations at Enforce, said one of the suspects was arrested in Malvern on Friday and the second had handed himself over to police at the weekend.

Police recovered 21 of the stolen coins and some expensive jewellery.

Last month, more than R2.4 million worth of jewellery, electronic goods and other items were stolen from two houses on the estate. Included in the haul were 100 Krugerrand coins, valued at R1 million.

Soon after the theft, three schoolboys were arrested.

Through the co-operation of the teenagers, police recovered about R800 000 worth of the stolen goods. - Daily News
