Johannesburg - Two hijackers were shot dead in Zola, Soweto, during a confrontation with police, Gauteng police said on Sunday.
“The vehicle was hijacked in Roodepoort on Saturday night and members of the K9 unit spotted the vehicle in Zola the same night,” Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.
“The police tried to stop the car but a shoot-out ensued. Two men were shot dead and the other two ran away.”
One unlicensed firearm was recovered.
A case of attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and possession of a hijacked vehicle was opened.
