Mbibane - Two men accused of burning a man to death appeared in the Mbibane Magistrate's Court, Mpumalanga police said on Friday.

The matter was postponed January 7 for formal bail application when it was heard on Thursday, Colonel Leonard Hlathi said.

Johnny Komane, 26, and Solomon Mbatha, 24, are accused of burning a man to death on December 15 and were arrested on Wednesday.

Hlathi said Komane and Mbatha went to the man's house to tell him they knew someone from whom he could buy a windscreen for his VW Golf.

The man left with them and on the way they forced him to drive into the bushes of the Mdala Nature Reserve in Vaalbank. They allegedly tied him up with cable ties, assaulted him, and stabbed him in the neck.

“They used jumper cables to spark a fire which burned the vehicle and the victim beyond recognition.”

The victim had not been identified as DNA tests still had to be conducted, Hlathi said.

Mbatha made a confession to the magistrate, implicating Komane as the accomplice. The motive for the murder was believed to be robbery.
