Sabie, Mpumalanga - Two people appeared in the Sabie Magistrate's Court on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in a child sex trafficking ring, Mpumalanga police said.

Colonel Leonard Hlathi said a 60-year-old businessman was granted bail of R70 000 while his co-accused, a 22-year-old Mozambican woman, was kept in custody.

They are accused of locking children in a house in Rhenosterhoek, where they used them as sex slaves.

Hlathi said when the police raided the premises, they rescued five children, aged between 12 and 17.

“The children are believed to be from Mozambique and related to the woman,” said Hlathi.

They were apparently brought into the country by the woman in 2009 so they could study in the country. The woman then sold them to the businessman on arrival.

The two were expected to appear in court again on February 5, 2013. - Sapa
