Mankweng - A man accused of murdering a 16-year-old girl was denied bail in the Mankweng Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, Limpopo police said.
His girlfriend, 17, also accused of the murder, abandoned her bail application, Constable Moses Molepo said.
The pair would be back in court on May 23. The man is also accused of having raped the victim. He remained in police custody. The girlfriend was being kept at a children's care centre in Polokwane.
They allegedly murdered 16-year-old Dikeledi Mehlape last year. Her decomposed body was found on a mountain in the Ga Thoka area. She was raped before she was stabbed to death.
“We are happy that he did not provide the court with substantial reasons why he wanted to be released (on) bail,” said Molepo.
