Polokwane - Two people accused of running an illegal FET college appeared in the Bolobedu Magistrate's Court on Monday, Limpopo police said.

The case against Hangwani Joseph Mukwevho, 57, and Kgaogelo Grace Mafokeng, 31, was transferred to the Seshego Magistrate's Court, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said.

This is the second fraud case opened against Mukwevho for running an unlicensed college.

On January 14, the Hawks closed down Seshego FET College in Zone 7, and its branch at 75 Church Street, in Polokwane. Mukwevho, his wife Olebile Monica Mukwevho, 45, and Avhapfani Dalton Mululuma, 31, were arrested in the process. A total of R69,250 was found at the campuses.

Their arrests followed investigations which started when students went to the department of higher education to enquire about the legitimacy of the college.

On Saturday, another fraud charge was added to Mukwevho's case after it was established he was the owner of the Kgapane FET College, which was not registered with the education department, Mulaudzi said.

Police recovered suspected fraudulent documents which indicated that the college, which started its operations in 2010, was also registered as the Bela Bela Technical College.

The Bolobedu Magistrate's Court transferred the case to the Seshego Magistrate's Court to consolidate with Mukwevho's first case, Mulaudzi added.

Police urged all previous and current students of both the Seshego and Kgapane FET colleges to go to their nearest police station and furnish their particulars. This would help police determine the number of students affected.

All five are expected to appear in the Seshego Magistrate's Court on January 30. - Sapa
