Johannesburg - Two men who escaped from the Mogwase Correctional Centre in Rustenburg were rearrested near the Zimbabwe border post on Tuesday.

The escapees described as dangerous were identified as Loyd Mulungu and Joseph Miambu.

Security officials are still looking for three more escapees named Knowledge Machesa, Emmanuel Hobe/Banda and Cloupuis Tapiwa.

The men escaped from the centre earlier this month.

Following the escape, the acting regional commissioner of correctional services Willie Damons has since commissioned an assessment of the physical security standard of the Mogwase Correctional Centre.

“The assessment findings will help guide an intervention aimed at closing identified gaps, while major renovations are still underway to convert Mogwase from an old prison into a better rehabilitation friendly and highly secure correctional facility,” he said.

Justice and Correctional Servicers Minister Michael Masutha during his 2016 budget vote earmarked the Centre to benefit from the R2.6 billion allocated for renovations of old facilities across the country over the next three years.

The Department has appealed to the public to help the police with information with information that would lead to the arrest the other escapees.

Anyone with information can contact their nearest police station or Rustenburg police on 014 555 2217.
