Cape Town - Police have made two more arrests in connection with the murder of baby Zahnia Woodward.

Two women appeared in the Simon’s Town Magistrate's Court on Tuesday after police and State prosecutors linked them to the death of the six-month-old Ocean View baby in December last year.

One of the women is the mother of another accused in the case, Larry Johnson.

Mariam Johnson, 59, and Simoney Kindo, were charged with being accessories to murder.

It is believed they had hidden the car, a VW Golf, the gunmen used in the drive-by shooting that killed Zahnia.

Larry Johnson, and three others - Christopher September, Tashwill Kreel and Morné May - each face a charge of murder and attempted murder.

Zahnia was sitting on her father Bradley Robyn’s lap when she was shot through the head. Bradley was seriously injured but survived the shooting.

Mariam Johnson and Kindo were arrested on 21 July.

They were due to apply for bail on Tuesday, but their advocate dropped them because they could not afford to pay him.

They will now be presented by a Legal Aid lawyer only identified as a Ms Isaacs.

Magistrate Crystal McKenna postponed the matter to 8 August for a formal bail application.

“The State also has to prove the charge as I am not sure how this can be an accessory to murder charge if the car was hidden after the murder was played out. Until then you shall remain in custody,” she said.

Outside court Zahnia’s mom, Cindy, 21, said she was happy the women would remain behind bars for now.

“Whether they get bail or not, justice is still taking its course. The detective told me they were charged with accessory to murder as they hid the car they shot my Zahnia out of,” the mom says.

She says the Johnsons were neighbours of Bradley.

Speaking of the pre-trial which was due to kick off on 25 August in the Western Cape High Court, the young mom said: “Emotionally I don’t think I am ready for pre-trial, but physically I will be ready; I have to be.”
