Rustenburg - Two men believed to have robbed a petrol station in Lichtenburg using a toy gun were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property, North West police said on Sunday.

“According to information, two armed suspects entered a filling station in Lichtenburg and allegedly forced the manager to open a till,” Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said.

They took an undisclosed amount of money and the manager's cellphone and fled in an unknown vehicle. The robbery was then reported to police.

“While on patrol, the police spotted and stopped a suspicious red Volkswagen Polo and searched it and the occupants. During the search police found two face masks, a toy gun, money, and a cellphone inside the vehicle. It was established that the cellphone belonged to the filling station manager,” she said.

The two men were arrested and were expected to appear in the Lichtenburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
