Brits – Two of the four awaiting-trial prisoners who escaped while they were being transported to court have been re-arrested, North West police said on Friday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said Gontse Lubisi, 27 , was arrested in Mmakau on Wednesday.

“Lubisi was arrested in Mmakau village under the De-Weldt bridge, next to Ga-Rankuwa, after police were alerted by members of the community about his whereabouts. They (police) then swiftly traced and arrested Lubisi, who was previously arrested for house robbery.

“He is expected to appear in Brits Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 26 February 2016, on charges of house robbery as well as escaping from lawful custody.”

The arrest of Lubisi comes a day after the arrest of Alfonzo Mpofu, 25, who was arrested in Majakaneng, south of Brits, on Tuesday.

Two others, Chris Sithole, 24, and Gibson Msimango, 25, both from Zimbabwe, were still at large. Anyone with information regarding their whereabout was requested to contact Detective Captain Jonas Masinamela on 082416 0712.

Sithole, Msimango, Mpofu and Lubisi escaped from custody while being transported from Mogwase prison to the Brits Magistrate’s Court on February 5.
