Johannesburg - A dramatic two-minute video showing two men being robbed at gunpoint has caused a stir across social media.

The victims were reportedly coming from OR Tambo International Airport, and the incident has left many fearing a re-emergence of a syndicate targeting people travelling from the airport.

In the video, two robbers are seen getting out of an Audi carrying large guns, behind the victims, who are in a white Toyota, waiting to pull into a boomed gate at an estate in Lonehill. They are then seen pointing their guns at the victims as they force one of them out of the back of the car and onto the ground, while a third in the Audi blocks the Toyota.

The two robbers are then seen opening all the car doors and the boot, and searching the car. At one point, one of the robbers climbs into the passenger front seat while pointing his gun at the driver. It’s believed the men stole cellphones, an undisclosed amount of cash and the car keys. The robbers jumped into the getaway Audi and sped off.

Gauteng police spokesman Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng confirmed the incident to The Star but was unable to give further details on Wednesday morning.

This is the third incident since January 22 in which people have been followed from the airport.

Last month, an Angolan journalist was shot after robbers climbed into the taxi he and his crew had taken from OR Tambo Airport to Sandton.

Two of the robbers allegedly forced their way into the vehicle with one taking the wheel while the other robbed them at gunpoint, taking money and cellphones from the journalists.

While fleeing the scene, the criminals then fired shots at the taxi. One of the bullets hit the journalist, injuring him. He was hospitalised but later discharged from hospital.

In a third incident, this time in Pretoria, two tourists were robbed of R100 000 at gunpoint after being followed to their guest house from OR Tambo. The robbers also stole their luggage, passports and airline tickets.

No arrests have been made in any of the incidents.
