Two sentenced to life for murder

Durban - Two men found guilty of murder and robbery were sentenced to life in prison by the Madadeni High Court, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday.

Philani Manqoba Jiyane, 25 and Sibusiso Maxwell Nene, 21, were each sentenced to life in prison for a murder committed in Vryheid, northern KwaZulu-Natal, in 2012, Captain Thulani Zwane said. Jiyane was also sentenced to 25 years for robbery and Nene 15 years for robbery. Their sentences would run concurrently.

Jiyane and Nene were arrested in March 2012 for the murder of 44-year-old James Sibusiso Gubevu.

Gubevu was found stabbed to death on the corner on Church and High street in Vryheid. He had been robbed of his takkies. - Sapa
