Port Elizabeth - Two suspects are expected to appear in the Barkly East Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, following the murder of a farmer in the area last week, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

Detectives traced the men, aged 27 and 32, to Gauteng after an intensive investigation following the murder of Sarel Pretorius on the farm Rooipoort on Tuesday.

His wife was found locked in a bathroom.

“The detective team worked tirelessly, following up information which led to the arrest of the two suspects in Hillbrow, Gauteng on Saturday... within days of the incident reported to the police,” said Eastern Cape provincial commissioner Celiwe Binta.

One of the suspects is believed to have been raised on the Rooipoort farm and worked in the area.

Police seized two 9mm pistols and recovered an undisclosed amount of money during the arrest.
