Butterworth - A man was arrested in the Zizamele township on Thursday for kidnapping and repeatedly raping his 12-year-old niece, said Butterworth police.
Captain Jackson Manatha said the girl was going to school last Thursday when her uncle abducted her.
The child's grandmother reported her missing the next day, and she was rescued four days later by a member of the community.
“It is alleged that the girl jumped (out of the place where she was being held) to the villager, who took her home on that night, and the suspect managed to escape,” said Manatha.
The uncle had been charged with kidnapping and rape, and was expected to appear in the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Monday. - Sapa
