Durban - Four men were arrested for dealing in drugs after a police sting on Thursday.
A Chatsworth man was arrested with an alleged accomplice when the suspects arrived in Scottburgh to allegedly deliver 3 000 mandrax tablets to an undercover policeman.
Police spokesman, Colonel Jay Naicker, said the policeman had bought drugs from the man 12 times before his arrest.
“The exchange was arranged (yesterday). The drugs are said to have a street value of about R12 000,” Naicker said.
Police arrived at the Chatsworth man’s house and arrested two more people identified by the undercover policeman.
The policeman described each suspect’s roles in the drug trade inside the house.
Forensics experts searched the house, in unit five, Chatsworth, and also combed the house for any drug residue.
“Conversations between the arrested man and the agent (the undercover policeman) were recorded (as well as) the times when purchases were made. We have a good case against him,” Naicker said.
He said the arrest was part of police drug raids sparked by an initiative by the Daily News’s sister paper, POST, which identified known drug dealers in Chatsworth.
The list was presented to KZN’s Premier Zweli Mkhize.
On Thursday, police also raided a suspected drug dealer’s house in Savannah Park, near Chatsworth.
“Police had a search warrant and no drugs were found in the house, but when the ceiling was searched, a suitcase with cash in it was found,” Naicker said.
The cash amounted to R1.6 million.
The South African Revenue Services (Sars) was contacted and the man and the money were handed over to Sars officials. - Daily News
