Johannesburg - A Vaal serial rapist who was sentenced to 300 years last week for raping girls under the age of 10 and infecting some of them with HIV has been linked to four other cases of rape.

Moeketsi Monyake was sentenced to 12 life terms in the Vereeniging Circuit Court on Thursday.

Now the investigating officer, Constable John Mokoena, has revealed that he has received more information from the Forensic Science Laboratory linking Monyake to four additional rapes, and that he will be charged soon.

“Once there's a DNA link, it means that person did have sex with that victim. So there is enough evidence to charge him. I will go to the prison where he serving his sentence and charge him.

“All I need to do now is to meet the victims and obtain statements from them,” Mokoena said.

He added that once a DNA analysis had been conducted, a blood sample was kept in the system in the Forensic Science Laboratory, and they ran it if there were similar cases in an area.

Monyake’s reign of terror began in 2010 and ended last year, when he was apprehended by residents, who called the police.

He targeted girls between the ages of 6 and 10, promising to buy them food.

His reign of terror ended after one of the victims he had just raped identified him.

“The family of that girl knew him (Monyake). After he was arrested, our investigations linked him to the other cases of rape in the community for the crimes committed from 2010,” Mokoena pointed out.

Monyake would kidnap the girls from their homes in Sharpeville and the vicinity at night or from streets where they were playing, taking them to nearby bushes or desolate places.
