Cape Town - A new directory showing where victims of violence can get help will be placed at all Western Cape police stations, social development MEC Albert Fritz said on Thursday.

He said the directory offered important contact information for medical services, care centres, shelters, human trafficking service organisations and psycho-social support services.

The directory will be used by counsellors and facilitators at victim-friendly rooms at the province's 151 police stations.

It would also made available to all provincial magistrates, libraries and other victim empowerment organisations.

An electronic version was available on the province's website and would be regularly updated.

Fritz launched the directory at the Mitchells Plain police station.

“Domestic violence tops the list of complaints received at the Mitchells Plain police station on a monthly basis,” he said in a speech prepared for delivery.

He hoped the directory would lessen confusion over which services victims could access and who they should be referred to.
