Wanted gangster in dock for host of crimes

Port Elizabeth – A notorious Port Elizabeth gangster appeared in the city's magistrate's court on Monday on various charges of murder, attempted murder and vehicle hijacking.

Randy Malgas, 28, a sought after gangster, was on the run for weeks when police finally arrested him over the weekend. Malgas was allegedly involved in several gang related shootings in the city's northern areas.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said that prior to police making an arrest Malgas attempted to escape however a chase ensued and he was apprehended.

Naidu said the Mount Road Cluster Visible Gang Intervention Unit confiscated a shotgun and eight rounds of ammunition at Malgas's home in Bethelsdorp. She added that additional charges may be added at a later stage of the investigation.

The case was postponed until January 23.
