Warrant out for ‘White Widow’ after no-show

A warrant for the arrest of a Worcester woman dubbed the White Widow, who is accused of conspiring to kill her husband, has been authorised after she failed to appear in the Worcester Magistrate’s Court.

Nell-Marie Cooke, 30, is accused of conspiring with her gardener’s brother to kill her husband, Maartin Cooke, 33, in November.

Her alleged plan was foiled when her husband found a note addressed to her in which the hitman allegedly asked her for money for the hit.

Cooke was arrested on February 7 and released on R5 000 bail.

The case was expected to be transferred to the Worcester Regional Court on Monday.

Her lawyer, William Booth, told the court: “

My client is on at court because she relocated to Pretoria. The firm she works for indicated that because of work purposes she cannot be at court today. She is a financial manager at the firm.”

Magistrate Andrew le Fleur held over the warrant until Cooke’s next scheduled appearance on June 22.
